The Carnival runs from August 6-12, with a variety of events throughout the week, plus the main parade on the Wednesday evening and Wheelbarrow Race night on the Friday.

Yet, even though all the planning has been done, organisers are holding a drop-in Helpers Night on Tuesday (July 19,) so people can find out how to play a part in the carnival, either in the run-up to the celebrations or during the special week.

“As with any voluntary project, we always need more help,” said committee chairman, Rob Schofield.

“We especially need people to help us marshal some of the big events, as well as sell draw tickets. However, there is a whole list of other jobs that would make a huge difference to us. Put simply, if you can spare an hour or more, we’d love to hear from you, as every offer of help is gratefully received.”

The Helpers Night is at the Royal Marine pub in Combe Martin from 7.30pm.

If you would like to help but can’t make the drop-in session, email cmcarnival@googlemail.com for more details on how to get involved.

* CARNIVAL Opening Night on Saturday August 6 will take place at Hollands Park with family entertainment, games, refreshments and stalls from 3pm followed by Music in the Marquee at 7pm.

Kicking off the free musical evening is Dan Greenaway, a versatile singer songwriter, who has played for Glastonbury Festival, BBC Radio 1 and Sky TV. Next to take to the stage is the popular band The Akibas, who also write their own material, as well as cover a range of country, folk and pop.

The night will be rounded off by Barnstaple party band Barely Legal, with soul reggae and rock hits to help you dance the night away.
