A quartet from the Unlimited dance Company are off to a prestigious event in America this March.
MEMBERS of a Barnstaple dance school are jetting off to the bright lights of LA next year to attend a premier global dance event.
The Unlimited Dance Company in Mill Road has been asked to the Dance Excellence event in Los Angeles in March, which features studios from more 40 countries representing their area in classes and workshops.
“We are very privileged to be asked to represent Devon; we will be the only dance school in the region to attend Dance Excellence and have been recognized for our long term commitment and dedication to the dance world,” said Sarah Clements the director of UDC.
Joining Sarah will be three students - Ellie Freeman, Lee Dunn and Heather Matthews.
For Heather it will be a particularly poignant experience because she is going in the stead of her brother Greg, a student dance teacher at the school who lost his life in a road accident earlier this year.
“Through Greg’s death we have met a lot of amazing young dancers and many doors have opened to us,” said Sarah.
Heather added: “Dancing has been a passion of mine, but life just got in the way and until Greg passed away I had not realised how much it meant to me.”
At the event the four will train with top international choreographers and dancers for the week and perform at Disney Land. Sarah said they were excited about being able to bring back to Devon knowledge and fresh ideas from the best dance teachers in the world.
In 2014 sarah is hoping she will be able to take another 10 students to the event.
