Kenwright whodunnit is ‘a must’ for thriller fans

********* *********

‘A definite must for the thriller enthusiast’ is how this week’s run of The Case of the Frightened Lady at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple has been described.

The show from the stable of Bill Kenwright’s Classic Thriller Theatre Company is playing at the theatre until Saturday night and the North Devon Gazette’s Sue Spear went along with a friend to give her verdict.

She said: “We both enjoyed it and it kept us guessing. There were lots of suspects to choose from and it was not really obvious – it was a real classic ‘whodunnit’.”

The celebrated production inspired by the pen of prolific crime writer Edgar Wallace features a number of easily recognisable names and faces from the worlds of television and theatre.

These include TV favourites Gray O’Brien, Rula Lenska, Denis Lill, Charlie Clements, Philip Lowrie, April Pearson, Ben Nealon and Glenn Carter (Jesus Christ Superstar).

Sue said the acting was very good and the single huge set was very well presented, with the cast making regular costume changes to keep the story flowing.

She added: “I would recommend it to anybody that likes thrillers.”
