BRAUNTON 4ths have moved level on points with leaders Putford Reserves and have played five fewer games.
They did so with a 7-2 win at home to Lynton and Lynmouth Reserves, while Putford dropped points in a 2-2 draw at South Molton Reserves.
It was not easy for either of the title contenders.
Young Braunton admitted they were outplayed in the opening half and they trailed 2-1 at the break as Mark Bithell struck twice for Lynton and old heads at the back dictated it for the visitors.
But when Ben Paul came on and Braunton changed things around, the goals came regularly in the second half, despite a good game in goal by Lynton keeper Jordan North, who kept a potentially bigger scoreline down.
Braunton’s scorers were Ben Paul (2), Dan Crocombe (2), Alan Woodcock, Will Dale and Dan Ball.
All seemed to be going well for Putford when they went ahead with a goal by Richard Maynard in the first half and double their lead soon after the break through Harry Lathbury. But South Molton’s Oliver Cheetham and 17-year-old Ross Curtis - his first goal for the club - evened the scoreline in the second half.
A brace of goals by Tom Bridgwater gave Hartland Reserves a 2-0 win at home to Buckland Brewer.
Anchor Chiefs Reserves conceded an own goal for the only score in a scrappy opening half away to Fremington Reserves.
Fremington upped the anti after the break and scored again with midfielder Kane Perry’s third goal in four games since returning to action for a 2-0 win.
