More than 30 try out ‘women in waves’ at Putsborough Sands
ORGANSIERS were ‘blown away’ by the success of the ‘women in waves’ project at the weekend.
More than 30 ladies took part in the event at Putsborough Sands on Saturday, which offered the chance to try new sports, learn new skills and gain confidence.
Organiser Tracy Lark said: “There were a few nervous ladies but after a crash course on swimming in the sea they moved onto stand-up-paddle boarding and rescue soft swell paddle boards.
“Most of these ladies were knee paddling in and over the waves, it was brilliant watching them achieve so much.
“Feedback on the day and afterwards have been great, we’ll certainly do it again next year!”
People taking part on the day, run by Surf Life Saving Devon and supported by a number of local organisations, got to try out swimming, board paddling, stand up paddle boarding and handball.
Elaine Hedger, who took part on the day, said she would ‘certainly be going in the sea again’.
“Fantastic, never realised the sea can be so much fun,” she said. “It was a well organised event.”
