Boys and girls teams win glory at Devon championships.
Braunton Academy has seen both its under 15s boys and girls teams crowned Devon Indoor Volleyball champions.
The best eight boy’s teams in Devon were pitted against each other in two pools of four. Braunton A and Braunton B were kept apart on either side of the draw. Braunton A won their pool, not losing a game and Braunton B came second in theirs, losing only once.
This meant that the two Braunton teams had to play each other in the semis. Braunton A managed to win, taking the lead late in the second half of a closely contested game.
They went on to beat St Peter’s in the final in another close game, while Braunton B easily won the play off to take third place.
The Braunton B team player of the tournament was Sean Hudson and the Braunton A team player of the tournament was Matt Hartnoll.
The girl’s competition had one pool of six, played in a round robin tournament. The Braunton Academy team dominated the tournament, winning every game and were crowned undefeated Under 15s Indoor Volleyball Champions. Lauren Short was voted player of the tournament.
“It is a fantastic achievement by our pupils to be Devon champions,” said PE teacher Jamie Frickleton.
“We have been successful in a number of sports during this Olympic year and our pupils have been inspired by the success that GB athletes have had. Our volleyball teams who are expertly coached by Denise Austin and are now deservedly Devon beach and indoor volleyball champions.”
