This week’s North Devon Netball League round-up
In division one of the North Devon Netball League Titans Apollo were fresh from their victory at the weekend and didn’t give Pat Williams Girls a look in despite Tracey Harrison’s efforts in defence. Nicola Hinton shot accurately to enable them to net 60 goals and the wet and windy conditions returned.
Blue Oasis just had the edge against Carol Anne Trolls. In a close match with Kate Bulled and Sue Wheaton controlling the game for Trolls Hannah Dibble and Sadie Adams used their speed in attack and Laura Bray and Marie Worby shot well to enable them to win by two.
Bude Stars linked well through the court to ensure they took advantage of a depleted Carol Anne Emeralds in division two. Ella Fry Taylor read the game well and created space for her teammates. Emeralds worked hard with a player short, particularly Sarah Hulland who needed to cover two positions.
Titans Jupiter and Pluto were successful against Instant Images Embroidery and Reeds Silverside respectively. Steph Batstone, Sarah Durrant and Sarah Steggles worked tirelessly throughout the match.
Coodes Cougars defeated North Devon Homes in division three but they had to work hard. They stormed ahead in the first quarter taking a 10 goal lead with great movement by Lucy Cannicott and top shooting by Chris Southern and Sarah Huxtable.
Claire Fallow took the court for North Devon Homes and the team settled and she controlled the attack to help them claw their way back. They reduced the lead by two goals each quarter but at the beginning of the final quarter they drew level with Tracey Hooper winning many interceptions.
Coodes showed determination in defence and patience in attack to pull away again and win 36-32.
Newly promoted Georgeham Rocks struggled against the experience of Carol Anne Topaz. The defenders were key for both teams with Olivia Bickell and Nicky Wormington voted players of the match.
There were very close matches in division four, where Carol Anne Jets led North Devon Homes Stars for most of the match with Kaj Bailey winning the ball in the mid-court. However NDH Stars kept calm and with Claire Stevens dominating the play into attack they managed to take a three-goal lead at the final whistle. Venners Bakery Jumping Japs had yet another close match but this time they were victorious edging two goals ahead. Shooter Tracey Tapp proved the difference although Hartland Harriers’ shooter Naila Rana was also in impressive form.
