Cleve 44-5 Bideford
BIDEFORD’S two-game wining streak came to an abrupt end at Cleve where they were rolled over 44-5 by the table toppers.
Bideford were only 15-5 down at the break, but fell away in the second half as Cleve got on top in mud-bath conditions.
The lone Bideford try was put away by wing James Buckland.
It’s back to King George’s this Saturday for a date with Hornets, who trounced Sidmouth last time out.
BIDEFORD Nomads continued their poor run of form, going down 26-5 at home to Torrington Legends.
Nomads gave away countless penalties, which allowed the visitors to persistently push them back to the point where they spent 80 per cent of the game defending.
On the few occasions Nomads got ball in hand to attack, the backs looked dangerous but their error count was too high and any momentum was soon lost.
The opening quarter had suggested a tight game but as soon as Torrington scored their first points from a penalty it was pretty much one-way traffic.
To their credit the Nomads defence kept the score to 13-0 at the break and with a darting run from lively scrum-half Jason Turner ending with a touch down in the corner there seemed to be some hope for the hosts.
Another penalty conversion to Torrington soon put them back in to the ascendancy, however and a strong finish from the Legends saw a further penalty score and a converted try to take them out of sight.
Strong performances in the Nomads pack came from Jamie Evans and Matt Coles with Mark Westcott and Tim Seymour the pick of the backs.
South Molton beat Cullompton 2nd XV 29-27 in a lively friendly last Saturday. The Blacks are at home to Totnes this Saturday.
Torrington resume their Devon Two campaign with a visit from promotion hopefuls Buckfastleigh. Ilfracombe are at home to in-form Dartmouth.
