6.50 PM
SOUTH Molton came out on top 33-24 in an entertaining friendly against Exmouth’s second team.
Dan Smith got the home side off to a fine start and although the visitors responded with a try to level the scores Adrian Irving crossed before the break, converted by Steve Ayres, after a fine backs’ move to put South Molton back in front.
Exmouth levelled matters again before Sam Howard’s try, converted by Ayres, regained the advantage.
The visitors once again cut the deficit before Smith decided the game with two tries, both converted by Ayres which decided the game despite a further Exmouth consolation.
South Molton 2nd XV went to Buckfastleigh, where they lost 22-0.
Saturday fixtures
BARNSTAPLE face their stiffest test of the season so far in National Three South West when they visit leaders London Irish Amateurs on Satuday.

Bideford get back into the Western Counties promotion race with a trip to Penryn.

Ilfracombe are at home to Devon Two promotion favourites Old Technicians.
Correction
We have been asked to point out a couple of factual inaccuracies in a report about former Barnstaple youngster Dave Lewis’ switch from Gloucester to Exeter Chiefs (Gazette – 20/02/13).
The article incorrectly said that Dave’s father Gwyn had skippered Ilfracombe to victory in the 1994 Havill Plate final in 1994. He played for Ilfracombe in the mid-1970s but had no involvement in this match.
Dave Lewis played for Barnstaple between the ages of nine and 18, rather than from nine to 14 as stated.
He played for Gloucester for six years rather than five.
