SHOCK of the weekend was the Brayford Cup defeat of Premier Division leaders Braunton at the hands of lowly league rivals Shebbear United, who are having their first experience of Premier football this season.

The sending off of a player in the opening 10 minutes saw the league leaders depleted and Shebbear took advantage to go in front. But early in the second half the scores were level and so were team numbers as Shebbear also had a man sent off.

Matt Facey hit two goals for Shebbear and Sean Sluggett one, while Tom Hunnibell was the Braunton scorer.

Bradworthy’s cup clash at home to Ilfracombe Reserves on Saturday was one of a number of games hit by the wet conditions.

They were able to take the field on Sunday for a Premier League game and were hit for six by Boca Seniors with only one in reply.

Mark Barrow, Giles Daniel, Scott Sharp, Tom Marsh and Matt Deakin(2) scored the Boca goals while Simon Cleeve struck one back.

Dolton were also 6-1 winners at home to bottom-of-the-table Combe Martin, but were full of praise for their tenacious opponents.

While Dolton could not turn early chances into goals Combe scored from their first attack to take the lead.

Will Folland pulled Dolton back level by the break and midway through the second half Will Clarke converted a penalty to give them a 2-1 lead.

Combe were then reduced when they lost one of their substitutes with a head injury and from there it was one-way traffic as Dolton slotted home four more goals in the final 15 minutes, from Ben Lake, Charlie Tubb (2) and Billy Tubb.

Appledore Reserves were 2-1 winners away to Torridgeside in a league match in which both sides defied the difficult conditions to serve up a good game of football.

Jay Sullivan put Torridgeside in front and when Appledore missed a penalty it looked as though the fates were in their favour.

But the game turned as Rob Avery equalised for Appledore just before half-time and Jason McGinley netted the winner with 15 minutes to go.

Torridgeside missed a penalty opportunity of their own in the final five minutes.
