A SWITCHED fixture, early kick-off and late goals proved a winning combination for Braunton Reserves on Saturday.
Ashley Lowe’s side climbed to fourth in the table after a 4-2 win at bottom side Ashwater in the North Devon Gazette Senior Division.
The match, moved to Mid Devon for a lunch-time start due to pitch problems at Lobb Field, proved an uphill struggle in the mud for Braunton, who found themselves 2-0 down at the break.
But an early second-half equaliser by Lee Eate – and an Eate equaliser with five minutes to go – turned out to be a the bedrock for an unlikely 4-2 scoreline.
Chay West and Ben Whitecross secured all the points in added time against the deflated Ashwater side.
Combe Martin went 2-0 up within five minutes in their match against Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves.
The hosts were five-up at the break before James Downing offered a chink of hope to Shammy five minutes after the restart.
There was to be no dream comeback though as Combe Martin stood firm and even added a sixth before the end. Carl Power and Nick Coupland both scored braces for Combe Martin and there were singles for Pete Varley and Grant Collins.
James Atkinson opened the scoring for Northam Lions 15 minutes into the match against Pilton Academicals.
On a Rock Park pitch akin to a ‘ploughed field’, Rob Crump fired the ball through goalkeeper Connor Found’s legs to make it 2-0 after the break.
Brendan Patton pulled one back for Pilton but the Lions restored the two-goal cushion when Sam Robinson put a defender under pressure and fired past Found with a fine shot.
