EIGHTY children from 11 North Devon schools competed in the primary schools’ tennis tournament at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple.

Instow School were winners of the Years 3 and 4 category with Landkey School the runners-up. Both now go to Exeter this Friday to play in the county finals at the Devon Summer School Games.

Winners of the Years 5 and 6 category were Goodleigh School, with Our Lady’s School, Barnstaple, the runners-up.

A similar competition for secondary schools drew 174 players from 10 schools.

Winners were:Year 7/8 Boys – Park School, Barnstaple; Year 7/8 Girls – Bideford. Year 9/10 Girls – West Buckland. Year 9/10 Boys - Ilfracombe

A ‘red schools’ tournament for Year 2 children drew 60 entrants from eight schools, with Ilfracombe running out the winners and West Buckland runners-up.
