Primary school pupils set for athletics showdown
CHILDREN across Barnstaple are gearing up for the third schools’ Olympic legacy event next week.
Around 360 athletes from all of the primary schools in Barnstaple will be descending on the Park Community School’s athletics field on Monday, June 9.
The event, which was first held to celebrate the Olympic torch relay coming through Barnstaple in 2012, has proved a resounding success and should once again see hundreds of school pupils and parent turning out to cheer the competitors on.
As well as representing a fun day out, the annual event provides Barnstaple with a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Olympics, one of the main aims laid out by Lord Sebastian Coe when bringing the Olympics to England.
