TORRINGTON are on the up after beating Plymouth Argaum 35-7 to book a return ticket to Devon One.

After two successive relegations, Torrie found themselves down in Devon Two this season with a new coach in Rob Palmer and some new ideas.

Promotion wasn’t on the agenda before Christmas as Argaum and Tamar Saracens appeared to have the division sewn up.

Argaum went on to win the division with four game to go, but Sarries fell by the wayside and when they faltered Torrie took up the running.

An unexpected defeat by Dartmouth seven days earlier put promotion celebrations on hold for a week.

There was no better way of going up than to beat the runaway champions on their own pitch.

Torrie score five tries in total at Argaum – two in a row in the opening 10 minutes for man of the match Ben Harper in the second row.

Craig Hooper scored the third and with Sam Britton converting and adding two penalties, Torrie were 23-0 up at the break.

Argaum stepped it up in the second half and for 20 minutes Torrie were under the cosh. Then they broke out and Tom Gooch scored for Britton to convert.

Torrie had one last try in them, put away by John Hutchings.

Argaum scored a consolation try in the last minute.

Ilfracombe drew 7-7 with St Columba & Torpoint.

SOUTH Molton look in good shape for the Devon Junior Cup semi-final showdown away to Wessex this Saturday after piling up a 39-0 win over Salcombe in Devon One.
