Topsham 0-32 South Molton

SOUTH Molton are the new leaders of Devon One after beating Topsham 32-0 to knock them off the top.

The Unicorn Park side ran in six tries, including a hat-trick for No.8 Dan Smith, as they made a real statement of promotion intent.

It didn’t take long for Smith to grab his first try in the early stages, but in a fairly even first half there followed only one try, that from Dominic Stoneman after an impressive rolling maul from the visiting side.

Topsham created chances to score tries but couldn’t quite find the crucial final pass when it was needed.

The second half started badly for the home side, despite having a man advantage, as South Molton’s Courtney Lucas hacked forward then collected the ball himself to run in the third try of the game, Stoneman converted.

From then on their only looked likely to be one winner, Smith - fresh from a spell in the sin bin - powered over for two tries to complete his hat-trick and the surprisingly comfortable win was rounded off by a try from Luke Doyle.

Molton have a derby date away to Torrington this Saturday. After their ton-up show against Plympton-Victoria the previous Saturday, Torrie had no game last weekend.

Ilfracombe lost 19-7 to Buckfastleigh in Devon Two.

Harry Laity kicked four penalties in the first half, the only scoring action, to give Bucks a decent lead.

He then scored an interception try that he converted himself. Ilfracombe responded immediately from the restart as Leo Cooper forced a knock on and Jay O’Byrne hacked the loose ball forward, collected the ball and scored. It proved to be just a consolation.

Ilfracombe have a rearranged home game against Tamar Saracens this Saturday.
