Defeat for Torrie in Devon and Cornwall Division and for South Molton in David Butt Memorial Trophy
Torrington came back once against visiting Plymouth Argaum in the Cornwall and Devon Division but couldn’t do it a second time and lost 33-24.
It looked like Argaum’s game all the way after they took a 19-5 lead into the interval.
The second half became interesting when the yellow cards started flying round.
It was 12 against 14 for a while after Argaum had three yellows to one for Torrie.
With men out of the pack Argaum struggled to hold Torrie, who pulled back a couple of tries to trail 19-17.
When it went back to 15 a side, Argaum regained control and scored two tries to on to close the game out.
Torrington try scorers were Mike Wigley with a push-over from a scrum, captain Ben Harper, vice-captain Tom Gooch and Charlie Bazzel. Jamie Todd kicked the conversions.
South Molton still have some work to do to qualify from the David Butt Memorial Trophy group stages after losing 30-23 at Topsham in their Pool A game.
Topsham’s bonus-point victory put them level on points with Molton at the top of the table with two games to go.
Molton trailed 22-9 at half time and had too much coming back to do in the second half.
South Molton’s points came from tries by Dan Smith and Simon Murch with Callum Stone converting both and three penalties.
Molton are due to host North Tawton this Saturday.
Ilfracombe were due to visit North Tawton in the last round but conceded the tie due to team-raising problems.
The team management will hope the situation improves for this Saturday’s visit from Topsham.
