This week’s Cornwall and Devon League, Devon One and Devon Two round-up

South Molton moved back to the top of Devon One with a 33-5 bonus-point win away to Old Technicians.

Topsham, who were top, were rained off at Tamar Saracens and drop back to second behind the Men in Black

Key to Molton’s victory was their impressive scrum, which was the big difference between the two teams.

Techs made South Molton work hard for their tries and the visitors only pulled away with three scores in the final 20 minutes.

The score was 0-0 for more than half-an-hour, but South Molton scored two tries in four minutes late in the half while Techs had a man in the sin-bin. Lock Tom Clark scored their first, with George Whiting then going over. Callum Stone converted both.

Dan Smith scored from a great scrum to give the visitors some breathing space before he scored another late on from another scrum.

Harry Kingdon completed in the scoring with a try in the corner, which Stone converted.

Molton have no league game this Saturday.

Ilfracombe are back in the Devon Two promotion picture after they overcame second-placed North Tawton 12-0.

Ilfracombe felt they thoroughly deserved their victory and were disappointed they did not score more than two tries.

They led 7-0 at the break with prop Adam Wyatt crossing and fly-half Dan Brierley converting.

After the interval Brierley went over himself, but surprisingly missed the conversion in front of the posts.

Ilfracombe, who are fourth in the standings, have no game this Saturday.

Torrington’s Cornwall and Devon Division game at Saltash was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Torrie are due to entertain Tavistock this Saturday – weather permitting.

Time is running out for bottom side Torrie to avoid an instant return to Devon One.

They are 20 points adrift at the bottom with 45 to play as the season enters the final third.
