Torrington overpowered Wessex 24-7 in the Western Counties basement battle, although they still have a mountain to climb to stay up.
Wessex were down to the bare bones in places due to unavailability but battled to the end and claimed a try by Harry Coombes that lock forward Nathan Clarke converted.
Torrington’s try scorers were Sam Britton and captain Ben Harper.
Britton and Tom Gooch shared kicking responsibilities.
Torrington are at home to Withycombe this Saturday in their game in hand.
Devon One leaders South Molton got five points for no effort last Saturday as scheduled visitors Totnes cried off due to team-raising issues.
Molton stay joint top of the table with Topsham, but are ahead on points difference.
All that could change this Saturday as Molton are due to visit Topsham, who are the only team to beat the Men in Black all season.
The game is Topsham’s last of the Devon One season, so a win would seal the title for South Molton.
Ilfracombe are due to make one of their longest trips of the Devon Two season this Saturday when they travel to Salcombe.
It is a 220-mile round trip to Salcombe – a long way to go for a game with nothing on it.
Both sides are mid-table in a division with no relegation. They won’t be going up or down.
