This week’s Cornwall and Devon League, Devon One and Devon Two round-up

Torrington salvaged a losing bonus point from their 10-8 defeat by visiting Plymstock Albion Oaks – and were a missed kick away from snatching a draw in the mud.

Oaks went 3-0 up on 30 minutes when Tom Richards landed a penalty.

Torrie responded smartly with a penalty back from Tom Gooch.

Plymstock regained the lead when Corey Jamieson ploughed in under the posts from close range. Richards converted.

Torrington kept attacking until the bitter end and on the last play of the day scored a try near the corner through Matt Coles.

The conversion, just like an earlier penalty, didn’t make it over the bar.

Torrington are away to Cornwall and Devon Division leaders Saltash this Saturday.

Title-chasing South Molton ran in 14 tries against New Cross to claim an 86-0 win over New Cross and keep the pressure on Devon One leaders Topsham.

Nine of them came in the first half as they led 55-0 at the break.

Reece Eury claimed two in the opening period, with Brendan Daley, Harry Kingdon, Simon Murch, Ross Crang, George Whiting, James Campbell and Henry Cole also crossing.

Murch and Daley added further tries after the interval, with Dan Smith, Callum Stone and Barnaby Newell also touching down.

Stone kicked eight conversions.

Molton are away to relegation worriers Old Technicians this Saturday.

Ilfracombe’s Devon Two trip to Devonport High School Old Boys was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. March 10 is the likely replay date.

Second-placed North Tawton visit Brimlands this Saturday.
