Cullompton II 15-10 South Molton

SOUTH Molton showed why they are clear at the top of Devon One by giving Cullompton IIs a real run for their money before going down 15-10.

The South West One side had a strong line-up on parade, including a number of 1st XV squad men looking to regain their places in that team.

South Molton were ahead with 15 minutes to go, but paid the price for failing to clear their lines as Cully snatched victory.

Molton No.8 Dan Smith has been steamrolling defences all season and did it again to put his side ahead after 13 minutes.

A good handling move involving No.8 Greg Lock enabled Cully’s Alex Brooks to ghost through to score.

Neil Ayre could have kicked South Molton ahead with a penalty, but was off target.

Two minutes into the second half Gibbins landed a tricky penalty to put Cully ahead for the first time.

Smith put South Molton back in front with a push-over try from a scrum.

Cully pushed hard for a way back and pressure had South Molton defending their own line.

When a Molton clearance kick was charged down Cully prop Gareth Chambers-Walker grabbed the bobbling ball and went in for a try that Brooks converted.

South Molton are away to third-placed Totnes this Saturday.
