North Devon Rugby League side ready to go in 2014

IT’S been a busy off season for North Devon Raiders, with a new look and a host of new players coming in to try and replicate 2012’s achievements.

The rugby league outfit powered to the league title and two finals that year, with the Raiders having to settle for third last year behind strong Devon Sharks and Cornish Rebels sides.

Up to 35 players have been attending the Wednesday evening training sessions, so head coach Stuart Harrison should have an embarrassment of riches at his disposal when selecting his side for the season opener.

As well as hoping for a good start to the league campaign, Saturday’s game carries extra importance with the match doubling as a South West Challenge Cup qualifier, the winners being rewarded with a home semi final against Devon Sharks on June 7.

As well as a new look squad, the Raiders will sport a new playing kit, sponsored by Talent Praxis and North Coast Physiotherapy, in a striking red, black and white design, replacing the blue and yellow of the previous four seasons.

Saturday’s opponents Exeter Centurions have won both of their games so far this year, averaging more than 50 points per game.

Admission to all games is free, with a free six-page programme available while stocks last.
