Amersham 42-10 Barnstaple

AFTER shipping 97 points on the road in their last two games, Barnstaple will be glad to get back to Pottington this Saturday for a Devon derby against Brixham.

Coach Steve Perry had been hoping the memory of the 55-10 drubbing at Bracknell seven days earlier would spur Barum on to better things at Amersham.

It didn’t work out that way though as Barum lost 42-10.

Barnstaple were seriously depleted in places – lock Tom Skelding couldn’t travel and they were minus Will Topps, James Bath and Tom Heard among others – and lacked a bit of bite.

It didn’t help Barum’s cause that they went down to 13 men just before half time as Scott Warren and Winston James went into the sin-bin.

Warren was punished for repeated infringements while James went to simmer down after he and Amersham prop Garret Doman-Cann had a full-and-frank exchange of views!

Lock Olly Mason scored for the second week running for Barnstaple, who trailed 15-5 at the break.

Mark Galiford went in for a try on 54 minutes that left the score 18-10 to Amersham at the time.

The Hertfordshire side added three more tries, two converted, and a couple of penalties to seal maximum points.
