Final match of the season ends in defeat for Barnstaple.
BARNSTAPLE’S young guns battled gamely to the end against the play-off chasing Redingensians before going down 42-3.
Old heads such as Mark Galliford hadn’t made it to Berkshire and during the game Barum lost Dave Kimberley, Mark Berry and Tom Skelding.
On came youngsters Ashlee Crouch, Scott Warren and Adam Lloyd, to join Matt Phillips who had been there from the start.
The Rams were ahead after four minutes with a converted try and by half time were 18-3 up.
Luke Berry kicked a penalty for Barum, who did not score again in the second half.
It was Barnstaple’s final game of the National Three South season. They currently sit seventh in the table, but could be overtaken by Weston who still have games to play.
Meanwhile, Barnstaple Development XV marked their defence of the Merit Table 1 title with a 29-7 win in their final game at Cullompton on Sunday.
Scrum half Calum Sumners and team celebrated getting their hands on the silverware with an ’usie’ after the final whistle (see above).
