Barnstaple 36-15 Old Centralians

BARNSTAPLE look in good shape for the Devon derby against Newton Abbot this Saturday after seeing off Old Centralians 36-15.

The Gloucester side, waging what looks like a losing battle against relegation, have a reputation for being nuggety and that’s what they were for an hour or so.

At 22-15 with 20 minutes to go the game was in the balance and the next score crucial.

Barnstaple got the try they needed for breathing space and the bonus point - and another right on full time to kill the game dead.

Luke Berry kicked a penalty and missed another in the first 12 minutes before converting a penalty try after Cents had a man sent to the bin for an offence on the line.

Ryan Brend’s second-half try gave Barum a 15-5 lead, but the visitors very briefly got back to 15-12 with a converted score of their own.

Berry converted a Mark Galliford try, the in the latter stages he added the extras to scores by Will Topps and Tom Heard.
