With all their rivals frozen out, the Robins had the Sports Ground passed fit to play and made the most of it, extending their unbeaten run to an impressive 18 matches and recording their 20th win of the season 3-1 at home to next-to-bottom Wimborne

All the goals came in the opening half, with the game only 10 minutes old when Bideford took the lead. Matt Andrew was fouled and the Robins’ skipper Matt Hockley stepped up to shoot home from the penalty spot.

Just five minutes later and it was 2-0, this time Andrew firing in a shot that took a deflection off a defender to beat the visiting keeper.

But Wimborne refused to lie down and were rewarded when a handball decision gave them a chance from the penalty spot, which they duly converted to narrow the gap.

There was still 10 minutes of the first half remaining when Ian Sampson restored the two-goal cushion, slotting the ball home after Sean Downing had headed down at the back post.

The second half was tame by comparison, its highlight being Andrew’s fine solo effort in the closing minutes, only for his shot to be cleared off the line by a defender.

Next up for the Robins is a visit to third-from-bottom Abingdon this Saturday.
