Bideford 2-1 Weymouth
Bideford are up to second in the Calor Southern League Premier after a 2-1 win over Weymouth.
Both sides came into the game unbeaten, but only the home side came out with that record intact, as goals from Owen Howe and Kevin Squire saw them extend the run to six games without defeat.
A big crowd of almost 350 helped energise the Robins from the off and they took the lead midway through the first half when fit-again Sean Downing picked out Howe, who duly slotted in his fourth of the season.
Weymouth showed why they hadn’t been beaten before this game, though, and were level soon after when a good strike from Stuart Yetton made it one each.
More good play down the right hand side saw the home side in again, and Squire finished well to put them in front.
The Robins looked comfortable until Matt Bye was shown a straight red card and Weymouth were given a sniff.
But Bideford held on to the delight of the home crowd, who have now seen their team take 14 points from a possible 18.
Bedford are next up for the Robins, after losing 6-1 to top-of-the-table Hemel Hempstead Town on Tuesday.
One concern for manager Sean Joyce, though, will be the injury which forced captain Matt Hockley to limp off early in the second half.
Poole Town are the only other side in the league who remain unbeaten, and have the chance to return to the top when they travel to Frome Town tonight (Wednesday).
