More than 50 crews descend on the Torridge for time trial head race
The second West of England time trial head race was held in Bideford last weekend, bringing together more than 50 of the region’s top crews.
The event, which was raced over a 3,000 metre stretch of the River Torridge between the Old Bridge in Bideford and Zeta Berth at Instow, involved all crews racing down Bideford Reds enjoyed a very successful day’s racing, claiming a total of eight class wins and finishing with three out of the four fastest crews on the day.
In conjunction with Bideford College, the Reds also took four of their top junior crews up to the national junior Sculling Head at the Dorney Lake Olympic venue.
The club have been working with the school to promote rowing in the town for a number of years, but are now linking up even closer to enable youngsters to compete at the highest possible level and to test their abilities against the very best in the country.
The Reds’ young rowers put in some good performances on the day, with the mixed junior 14 crew of James Jordan, Alex Dualibi Wilson, Isaac Crowther and Jude Brittle securing the club’s best finish of 11th.
