Barnstaple’s impressive scoring run continues with 4-1 win against Warminster.
BARNSTAPLE Town took their scoring tally to 16 goals in a remarkable eight days with a 4-1 win at home to Warminster Town on Saturday.
After putting six past Roman Glass St George and Almondsbury UWE, Barum came from behind with a brace by Jack Jenkins and singles by Ryan Turner and Dave Pearse to avenge a 2-1 defeat at Warminster on April 2.
Despite a bright start, it was the Wiltshiremen who took the lead on 13 minutes, Tom Golledge heading home a Louis Sparey corner.
Visiting goalkeeper Carl Crabtree had already saved well from Jenkins after Aaron Harper-Penman opened up the defence within minutes of the kick-off
But when a long ball up field by opposite number Jimmy Thorne found Turner, Crabtree was unable to stop the striker levelling the scores from the edge of the box.
Minutes later, another wind-assisted punt by Thorne looked goal-bound but was tipped over the bar by the scrambling Crabtree.
Billy Tucker and Jed Penman-Harper went close to giving the hosts the lead before the break.
They eventually broke the deadlock after the break when Jenkins found the net after Warminster failed to clear a corner.
A fingertip save from Tucker denied Barnstaple a third – but not for long, Jenkins pouncing on a loose ball from a corner to make it 3-1 with 10 minutes to play. Dave Pearse made it 4-1 in injury time.
Barnstaple are now fourth in the Toolstation Western League Division One but have games in hand on the teams around them.
On Friday they host eighth placed Wellington at Mill Road, while on Monday they travel to Cheddar.
