Boca Seniors 2-1 Braunton
IT was billed as a title decider by many, as the top two sides in the North Devon Gazette Football League clashed at Tarka Tennis Centre on Wednesday night.
And it was Boca Seniors who took a giant leap towards regaining the title with a 2-1 win over Braunton.
Both sides looked below their usual standard in a turgid first half, with very little goalmouth action at either end to get the 200-strong crowd excited.
Boca’s Scott Sharp had one of the best chances of the half, but couldn’t get enough power behind his header.
Both sides pushed on in a well contested second half, and it was Boca who got their noses in front when Sharp finished coolly with his left foot.
Sharp doubled his tally on the hour, this time bolting through on goal before dinking the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the net.
But Braunton refused to roll over, and scored 10 minutes later after their best spell of pressure in the match.
Braunton had started to put more balls into the box, and after a scramble the ball was eventually turned in to make it 2-1.
A number of hard challenges started to fly in, and the game was stopped for a number of minutes when a Boca player came off worse after a blood-curdling clash of heads.
But Boca held on to claim the points and make the job of winning the league that bit easier.
Braunton are still top by three points in the premier division, but Boca – still yet to lose a single league game this season – have three games in hand.
Braunton can extend their advantage at the top on Saturday, but face a difficult test at Torridgeside. Boca do not play until Tuesday.
