Bideford Reserves 1-2 Braunton
BRAUNTON came from behind to beat Bideford Reserves in the final of the Brayford Cup on Saturday.
The North Devon Gazette Football League leaders, who look set to narrowly miss out on the league title to rivals Boca Seniors, showed true resilience to fight back with two late goals sealing a memorable cup win for Mark Harris’ men.
Bideford enjoyed the better start in extremely windy conditions at Torridgeside, and went ahead in the first half through a Will Nicholls strike.
The testing weather affected the flow of the game, with neither side able to get the ball down and create the sort of chances they have managed on so many occasions this season.
It looked as if Bideford might hold on to win the cup they so narrowly missed out on last season, when they were beaten by double winners Torridgeside, but with less than 10 minutes to play Russell Harrison got Braunton back on level terms and set up an enthralling finish.
Braunton continued to push and found the winner through prolific frontman Sam Box to keep them in with a chance of a league and cup double.
They need Boca to take no more than three points from their final three league games to claim the title.
Bideford, lead by man-of-the-match Carl Holliman, can at least take comfort from last week’s Torridge Cup victory in a season which will see them finish no lower than fourth in the league’s premier division.
