Early bird entries for Wimbleball Lake endurance swim go on sale next week.

A brand new open water swimming event is being held at Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor on September 30.

The Exmoor Open Water Swim is being billed as a ‘safe and friendly’ event for seasoned long distance open water swimmers looking to challenge themselves on a 4km single loop of the lake.

There will be an ‘elite’ section for racers and non-wetsuit wearers are also welcome to participate.

A 2km course is also available and safety will be covered by kayaks and motorboats.

Event director Michael Morris said: “Our goal is to give everyone the opportunity to swim in this incredible lake in the heart of Exmoor.

“While there are medals for those who come in the top three for their age groups, the majority of swimmers will simply be challenging themselves to participate in a safe and friendly open water swimming environment at Wimbleball Lake.”

Participants and their families will receive a 10 per cent camping discount at Wimbleball, as well as 10 per cent off all the activities on and around the lake.

The event is being organised by team behind the Croyde Ocean Triathlon, which takes place on Sunday July 2.

Early bird entries will be available at www.exmoorswim.co.uk from 7am on March 21.

And there are still some tickets available for the Croyde Ocean Triathlon. Visit www.croydeocean.co.uk for details.
