With the countdown to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in its final stages, youngsters from across Devon have taken part in their own festival of competitive sport in Exeter.

The Devon Summer School Games involved around 1,500 young people between the ages of seven and 18 years and there were medals for five North Devon schools.

Students from Park Community School in Barnstaple won gold, Bideford College, Great Torrington Junior School and Instow Primary School came away with silver and Park and Landkey Primary Schools took bronze.

Mini Tennis Red - 2, Instow Community Primary School; 3, Landkey Primary School. Super 8 Start athletics - 3, Park Community School, Barnstaple. Quicksticks hockey - 4, Umberleigh Primary School.

The games were opened by Exmouth’s double Olympic sailing medallist Joe Glanfield.

The youngsters competed in teams representing each of Devon’s seven School Sports Partnerships - East Devon, St Luke’s (Exeter and Mid Devon), North Devon, Plymouth, South and West Devon, Torbay and Dartmoor which includes Teignbridge.

The sports on show included an aquathlon (swimming and running), athletics, goalball, gymnastics, hockey, rounders, indoor rowing, tennis and tri golf.

Aquathlon Yr 5 & 6 - 2 equal, Great Torrington Junior School and Walter Daw Primary School A, Exeter. Mini Tennis Red - 2, Instow Community Primary School; 3, Landkey Primary School Super 8 Start athletics - 3, Park Community School, Barnstaple. Quicksticks hockey - 4 Umberleigh Primary School. Quadkids athletics - 5, Bratton Fleming Community Primary School. Rounders Yr 7 - 5, Park Community School, Barnstaple. Super 8 Junior athletics - 6, Park Community School, Barnstaple.
