Woolacombe club members selected for senior and youth squads
Four young athletes from North Devon have been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championships for Surf Life Saving.
Liam Ward, Lily Nichols and Summer Whiteley will fly to Italy in September as part of the GB Youth squad in the sport of Surf Life Saving, while their team mate Ellie Parker is Netherlands-bound having been selected for the GB Senior team. All four are proud members of Woolacombe Surf Life Saving Club.
The European Championships are extremely competitive. The GB team will be expected to compete against other top athletes from up to 20 different countries, in a variety of beach and pool events including paddle board races, open water swimming and beach flags.
New team members Liam and Summer have both had a fantastic season so far, both excelling in the iron man, open water swimming and board races.
Lily Nichols and Ellie Parker represented GB last year in Japan and Australia and played big parts in helping the GB team secure their best European placing so far coming 4th. Both of them brought home a variety of medals.
All four athletes hold National titles in Surf Life Saving and their selection for Great Britain comes as a reward for their dedication, determination, gruelling training and absolute commitment to the sport.
