NORTH Devon pony riders will travel to the National Pony Club Championships in Cheshire this weekend.

Junior and senior teams from Dulverton West (North Molton) Pony club qualified at the zone finals in Taunton last month.

The top teams will go on to the Prince Phillip Cup finals, which are hotly contested each year at the Horse of the Year Show.

Competing is Maisie Atkinson, Haley Northcott and Molly Mathews from Heasly Mill.

Barnstaple’s Chad Bament and Izzy Beard, Chittlehampton’s Charlotte and William Turner, Torrington’s Ellie Dawson and East Anstey’s Grace Sinclair will all take part.

They will be competing against the nation’s top teams after training tirelessly throughout the summer.

Team trainer Rachel Northcott said, “The children have all worked hard to qualify, having done well at zones but also training throughout the year in all weathers.

“Whatever the outcome I’m sure we will have a wonderful time.”

The teams have received sponsorship from three local businesses, (Davidsons Accountants, Torch Farm Vets and Chemdry Devon), which has helped cover the considerable costs of travel and training.
