Visit to annual Tottenham Hotspur Awards allows local duo to meet ‘the fans’ favourite’.
NORTH Devon Spurs followers were able to pay tribute to fans’ favourite Ledley King when they travelled up to London for the annual Tottenham Hotspur club awards.
Giles Stacey and Guy Cable, chairman and secretary of the North Devon Spurs Supporters Club, were among supporters nationwide invited to the event at the Spurs Enfield training ground.
Following a question and answer session with now-retired Tottenham and England defender Ledley, the North Devon visitors presented him with a glass football shaped trophy that had been donated by Dartington Crystal in Torrington.
“He’s a one-club man who was forced to give up the game through injury and there aren’t many who stay on at just one club these days,” said Guy, who is from Barnstaple.
“Plus he is still working there in an ambassadorial role, so we thought this would be a nice gesture as he has always been a fans’ favourite. I think he was quite touched by it, he said it was very nice of us to do that and he appreciated it.”
During the event, they also got to watch as current Spurs player Gareth Bale was presented with his PFA Player of the Year Award.
