The result was in the balance for most of the game despite the visitors crossing for a five-point lead after two minutes.

Good defence and some suspect handling from both teams denied further scores until a stray pass deep within the Nomads’ 22 allowed an interception and the second Topsham try right on half time.

A 12-0 deficit was not insurmountable, but the visitors’ defence continued to repel one attack after another,

Nomads’ forwards battled up to the try line on many occasions without being able to touch down.

Topsham sealed their victory with a last-minute penalty.

Tim Falkner had a fine game at No.8 for the hosts with other strong performances from Jamie Evans before he was concussed and hospitalized, and half-backs Shaun Woodhead and Mike Powe.

The pack, led By Darren Palmer until he left the field with a badly dislocated finger, were strong in the scrum and dominated the line-out.

Nomads travel again to Torrington this weekend to continue their series of derby battles.
