APPLEDORE gave second placed Exmouth Town a tough time in South West Peninsula Division One East, despite playing most of the second half with only nine players.
After an evenly contested and goalless opening half, the Fishermen lost two players in five minutes at the start of the second period, Ryan Levine and Mark Cann both receiving red cards.
Exmouth took advantage to grab the only goal of the match after an hour of play with a drive that took a slight deflection.
Holsworthy also had a close match before losing out 2-1 to Godolphin Athletic in Division One West.
The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes and held it until the break. Holsworthy started stongly in the second half and forced two good saves from the visiting keeper before finding themselves 2-0 down with a quarter-hour to play.
Stuart Rickard pulled one back with a long-range shot in the dying minutes.
