A team of Army Cadets from the Torrington Detachment are celebrating successes in national shooting competitions.

The team came first in Devon and eighth in the country in the ‘News of The World Challenge Cup’ and 20th nationally in the ‘Cadet 100’ competition.

The team also received National Small bore Rifle association (NSRA) Classification Badges from President of Bideford Rifle Target Shooting Club Simon Daffron.

Cadet regimental sergeant major Ellie Kinsella gained senior B class with cadet sergeant Ashley Goodhead and cadet Maddie New achieving senior class C. Cadet Freddie Webber received his junior C class badge.

Sergeant Major Trevor Goaman, who trains the team, said: “I would like to thank the Bideford Rifle Club for their hospitality and support with additional coaching for the cadets which undoubtedly helped us to obtain these excellent results.”

Target shooting is just one of many exciting activities on offer to young people of 12 to 18 years through the Army Cadet Force.

Torrington Detachment parades on Friday evenings at Torrington School. For more information contact Detachment Commander AUO Vikki Squires on 07970 082963.
