Bideford AAC’s Mark Jenkin first across the line
BIDEFORD AAC’s Mark Jenkin beat competition from more than 600 runners to win this year’s Bideford 10k on Sunday.
Jenkin headed a Blues 1-2-3 with clubmates Ronnie Richmond and Ian Gooding behind him in second and third respectively.
Jenkin completed the distance in 32 minutes 22 seconds, 35 seconds clear of his closest challenger.
Fourth-placed Brendan Patton was the fastest non-affiliated runner, clocking 34:26.
It was a highly successful day for hosts Bideford Blues, who filled nine of the top 13 places, including a number of veterans runners.
Jasmine Finney, of Bude Rats, was the fastest woman, crossing the line 15th in 38:21 – more than a minute and a half faster than Tiverton Harriers’ Serane Stone.
In total, 617 runners took on the event, organised by Bideford AAC. This was the first year in which ‘gun to chip’ timing was used, offering more accurate run times for each of the runners.
