LOCAL horse breeders Debby Appleby and Amy Cox have seen their horses reach elite premium level.

Debby, from South Molton and Amy from Woolsery took their horses to the British Equestrian Federation Futurity at Bicton Arena, which identifies potential international-standard horses in dressage, eventing and showjumping.

Debby’s two year old filly, Southstone Elektra, attained an elite premium of 9.08 in the eventing section, which was the highest two year old score of the day. An elite premium indicates that the horse has the potential and outlook to perform at international level.

Debby said: “I am just delighted with Southstone Elektra, she has a bold attitude and is a spectacular mover.

“This was our first time at the Futurity - we will definitely be going back.”

Filly foal Pretty Picture, bred and owned by Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist Amy Cox, attained an elite premium of 9.02 in the dressage section, which was the highest score of the day for a sports pony.

Amy’s goal is to breed FEI competition ponies.

“I am only 5 feet tall so I am small enough to ride the ponies,” she said. “I plan to keep Pretty Picture, break her in and produce her to be sold as an FEI pony.”
