THE weather cut into the North Devon League’s cup programme at the weekend, with matches cancelled in all divisions and those who did play having to contend with heavy conditions and strong winds.

League leaders Braunton made 4-1 Brayford Cup progress at the expense of Barnstaple Ammies, despite having their efforts frustrated by a fine display by Ammies’ keeper Oliver Rigler.

Playing against the wind and against the on-form keeper, they led at half-time by a single goal from Elliott Whitecross.

Jake Barwick made it two before Gary King pulled one back for the Ammies. Barwick struck again and Russell Harrison added a fourth to finally enable Braunton to pull clear.

Georgeham breezed through their cup encounter away to Combe Martin 6-0.

Conditions were difficult, but goals by Dale Sawyer (2), Dave Newsom, Neil Sharp-Dent and Gary Wood (2) saw the visitors net three times in each half.

A single goal was enough for Bratton Fleming to beat high flying visitors Torridgeside, who are five places above them in the league.

Bratton started well and created a number of chances, but were denied a score in the opening half by a fine display between the sticks from Torridgeside keeper Lee Cockwill.

The second half, however, saw defender Matt Scrace score a rare goal, which proved to be the matchwinner.

Shebbear Utd tried out a new 4-4-2 system for their cup clash with Torrington in an attempt to get more goals – and were rewarded with a 4-2 passage into the next round.

They were never behind and scored through brothers Jamie and Sean Sluggett, James Vanstone and Martin Davies.

Hallum Cook and Mark Clark replied for Torrington.
