Braunton Reserves take another giant stride – or three – to the title.
BRAUNTON Reserves took another giant step towards the North Devon Gazette League Senior title with three wins in the space of five days this week.
On Wednesday night, Braunton beat North Molton Reserves 5-3 at Lobb Field. Will Dale, Lee Eate, Ryan Hawkins, Tom Hunnibell and Matt Hunt were on target for the hosts.
Joshua Heslington scored twice for the Stags and there was one for substitute Price Sexton.
Hunt and Hunnibell were on target again in a 4-0 win against Torridgeside Reserves on Saturday. Max Wellend and Alan Woodcock also scored.
And, on Sunday, they polished off Putford 2-1 with second-half strikes by Woodcock and Ryan Hawkes to record their ninth straight win.
As it stands, Braunton are 21 points ahead of nearest rivals Landkey Town but have played five more games. Braunton would need just four points from their remaining three games to see off a challenge from Landkey.
But with plenty of football left to play, Park United still have a real say in the destination of this year’s silverware.
The Bideford side sit 26 points behind Braunton but the two sides are yet to meet this season.
Park were without a game on Saturday but beat Northam Lions 5-0 on Wednesday night. Steve Skinner scored a hat-trick and there were singles for Mark Hill and Ricky Marinaro.
In other Saturday results, Barnstaple FC beat Northam Lions 6-0, Woolsery drew 3-3 at home to Combe Martin and Ashwater drew 1-1 with Merton.
South Molton’s early lead against Landkey was a short-lived one. The hosts fired three in reply before the half-time break to cancel out James Campbell’s seventh minute opener.
On Sunday, Ashwater beat Lynton & Lynmouth 5-2 and there were wins on the road for Merton and Landkey.
