Bideford boxer records eighth professional win as debutant Stone loses tight contest

BIDEFORD’S Tommy Langford extended his professional record to eight wins with a solid display against Trowbridge’s Dan Blackwell at Villa Langford showed off a great variety of punches and good work rate to win 60-55 over six rounds in his first fight since signing with promoter Frank Warren.

Elsewhere, Bideford ABC’s Grant Stone showed his fighting spirit in a tough debut fight.

Stone travelled to Blandford to face John Cooper from Lawrence ABC. It was a tight first round with Stone using a good jab and showing strength with some eye catching right hands, as Cooper moved around him with fast combos.

In the second, Cooper came to life and had answers for everything Stone chucked at him, showing fast hands and clean counter punches.

Stone didn’t duck the challenge though, and continued to go forwards and trying to walk through his opponent.

Cooper was rocked as Stone caught him on the ropes with a strong combination and ended the fight with a blooded nose.

Ultimately Stone lost on points, but will take heart from a positive debut.
