The Berkshire side have a massive set of forwards and Barum did well to contain Reds to just three tries.

“I have no complaints about the score,” said Barum’s director of rugby Kevin Squire. “They were bigger than us and made that count.

“Exmouth won there a couple of weeks ago and all I can say is they must have played out of their skins.

“No one is disappointed about the result as we had a young side out and everyone acquitted themselves well.

“The only disappointment was having Jordan Patey sent off in the last minute for throwing a punch. He was going backwards at the time and we will be arguing it was self-defence.”

Barum are at home to Chippenham this Saturday.

l BIDEFORD’S hit-and-miss form in the Western Counties Division continued when they were beaten 17-3 at Okehampton.

Okehampton had the puff and grunt in the forwards to control proceedings and were never seriously troubled.

A Steve Alford push-over try was converted by Carl Poynton, who added a penalty before the break for a 10-0 Okes’ lead.

Bideford got on the board with an Ollie Wickett penalty after the break.

A penalty try was converted by Poynton to wrap up proceedings,

Bideford welcome Kingsbridge to King George’s this Saturday.

l TORRINGTON slipped closer to relegation from the Devon & Cornwall Division after a 22-6 defeat by Withycombe that leaves them 27 points adrift of safety with 40 to play for.

Withycombe had the upper hand among the forwards and on a boggy day at Donnacroft that proved crucial.

Sam Britton landed two penalties for Torrie, whose next engagement is a home game with Hayle.

l SOUTH Molton suffered a rare defeat in Devon One – only their second in seven games – when they lost 19-12 away to Devon One leaders Wessex.

With the winds at their backs in the opening half, South Molton struggled to make an impression and went 19-0 down

However the visitors hit back with two late tries from wingers Courtney Lucas and Dave Northcott to come away with a bonus point, which could yet prove crucial in the battle for second place.

l ILFRACOMBE picked up a 17-0 win on the road at Buckfastleigh in Devon One despite a far from ideal preparation.

Shortly before kick off the visitors, already short of bodies, had just 11 men on the pitch with a car-full delayed on the roads.

The players arrived with minutes to spare and were straight into the action.

In the circumstances Ilfracombe could have been forgiven a slow start but instead they started brightly on their way to a victory secured by tries from Sam Morgan-Russell, Lewis Morgan-Russell and Dan Brierley, who added one conversion.
