Newly-resurfaced courts should be open for play this month
Tennis courts at Bicclescombe Park are being resurfaced and should be ready for play before the end of the month.
Improvement work on three of the seven courts began last Monday, funded by Ilfracombe Tennis Club who lease the courts from North Devon Council.
Some entrances and areas of the park may be fenced off while the work is done.
“We welcome these improvements as it will not only benefit the people of Ilfracombe but all those in North Devon who travel to play tennis here,” said executive member for Parks, Leisure and Culture Cllr Derrick Spear.
“Projects like this help to keep sport alive in North Devon.”
Tennis club committee member Jonathon Peat said: “The surface is currently very worn which makes it tricky to play on. The resurfacing will make a massive difference to the players.”
