Ilfracombe's Rapparee crew in action at Salcombe

Archant

ILFRACOMBE Veterans flew the North Devon banner at the annual Devon Cup gig regatta in Salcombe on Saturday.

They won the veterans trophy – the only trophy not to be won by crews from the home club.

Fourteen crews from all over Devon took part. Men’s teams raced from Salcombe to Kingsbridge and the ladies from Kingsbridge to Salcombe.

In the men’s race, the Ilfracombe veterans put on a show of strength in the final 200 yards, upping the pace to overtake several boats and power past the home crew of Salcombe to take the win!

The Ilfracombe Rapparee crew came eighth, a great result for some new rowers.

The ladies had a close start, with all the boats finding their space and trying to take the best line.

Salcombe took an early lead with Teignmouth, Ilfracombe and another Salcombe crew fighting to catch them up. By half way Ilfracombe ladies Rogue crew had taken third place and comfortably held on to that position third while their clubmates in Rapparee came sixth.
