ILFRACOMBE made the most of perfect rowing conditions in Paignton this weekend, picking up a handful of top three finishes.

There were more than a dozen crews in attendance from all over the UK with Caradon, Teignmouth, Dartmouth and many more taking part.

The day started with the ‘A’ races and the men’s A put in a good performance to come third after getting caught up in the melee of the first turn.

The ladies’ A crew got off to a good start and had a clear channel with good turns taken by cox Roy Thorne on their way to second.

The men’s B had a good race with Miroslav ‘Miro’ Dubravka taking part in his first regatta, having only starting rowing this season.

The ladies’ B also had a good race but there was a major clash on the first turn which they managed to get out of before sprinting away to take eighth place.

Next came the veterans’ turn to race and the men got off to a flying start, breaking from the pack half way down the first leg with good turns by Graham Watson and Martyn Hocking. A great burst for the line saw them take second place.

The ladies’ veterans also put in a solid performance to come third.

The final race of the day was the mixed race and a quick start saw the Ilfracombe crew in front right from the off.

With good turns they increased their lead and crossed the line to claim a comfortable win.

This weekend it will be Ilfracombe’s turn to play host, as their day’s regatta racing kicks off at 10.30am on Saturday.
