Several wins for local clubs
ILFRACOMBE once again came out on top at last weekend’s Clovelly regatta.
Ilfracombe were overall winners by five points, beating local rivals Torridge into second place despite windy conditions on Saturday.
The day started well for Ilfracombe with the ladies veterans’ race, where after a good start the ladies were able to open up a commanding lead and take the win.
The men’s veterans were next up and after pacing down the first stretch they found themselves in front.
Birthday boy David Schiller put in a good shift as the vets flew across the line in first place.
Appledore then won the ladies B race, before another second place for Ilfracombe in the junior races.
Their ladies A crew then powered to victory, with the men’s races providing some of the day’s most exciting moments.
Torridge men demonstrated they continual improvement over the season by winning both the men’s B and men’s A races, with Ilfracombe second.
Barnstaple were also in action over the weekend, recording a respectable overall position of fifth.
The clubs’ attentions will now turn to Newquay and the county championships in mid September.
