Ilfracombe rowers put on remarkable show for the home crowds - and Dave the Dolphin makes an appearance
Ilfracombe regatta went ahead after being postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions on Sunday – and the home club went on to dominate the day’s racing.
The ladies A started things off with an impressive performance as Ilfracombe sprinted away to a comfortable win.
The mens A followed suit and crossed the line with some 10 boat lengths between themselves and second place.
The B races followed but nothing changed as Ilfracombe continued to dominate proceedings. The ladies dug deep to carve out a victory and the men got clear early on on their way to a comfortable win.
The Juniors race saw a new Ilfracombe crew of Olivia Halls, Will Homa, Charlie South, Joe Filer, Luke Halls, David Williams and Cox Bob Corwyn taking to the water for the first time, and their second place finish is an encouraging sign for the future
The Ladies veterans put in their usual strong showing to claim a clear first and the mens veterans did the same and stormed across the line to take another win.
The Super veterans also had amazing races in the ever choppier conditions and having the home knowledge of the sea proved important as the men and women’s crews both crossed the line first.
The Mixed race was the final race of the day and Ilfracombe’s Rapparee whizzed past Dave the Dolphin and claimed another win to complete a remarkable day of racing from the home crews.
