HOLSWORTHY FC club and first team captain John O’Donoghue was expected to remain in hospital in Truro for the rest of this week after suffering a potentially life threatening injury on the pitch on Saturday.
O’Donoghue, in his early 20s, was involved in a collision with his own goalkeeper Chris Pearce right at the end of their South West Peninsula League match at Helston.
At first it was thought he was only winded, but then he was sick and became short of breath, said team manager Steve Lewis.
He was rushed to Treliske Hospital where he was found to have internal bleeding and a split large intestine and underwent an operatioon the same night.
